Your agent gets a phone number and a voice. Call it and talk like on any phone call: it listens, thinks with everything it knows and can do, and answers in real time. When others call, it answers as your assistant, takes a message and sends you a short note. With a Twilio number it also calls people for you: book a table, move an appointment, ask a shop if something is in stock.
Setup takes three steps on a page linked from your server page: paste your Vapi API key (a free Vapi account comes with $5 of calls), give your agent a number, and enter your own mobile number. For the number, pick one of three: a free US number from Vapi (ready in minutes, no card; your agent answers calls), a US number bought in your Twilio account right from the page (your agent also makes calls), or a number you already have at Twilio, Telnyx or Vonage, in any country.
What you get
- Live phone calls with your own agent: Vapi does the phone line, speech recognition and the voice; the thinking is your POCKETCORP agent, streamed word by word so it starts talking fast
- It knows when it's you (caller ID, optional spoken PIN) and helps like in chat
- Others get a friendly receptionist that takes a message, or only you get through
- Outgoing calls with a Twilio number: tell your agent in any chat who to call and why; it reports back
- 6 voices, 7 languages (or automatic), transcripts and recordings of every call
- A contact card with QR code, so the number is in your phone in seconds
Costs at Vapi, paid to Vapi: about $0.05 a minute for Vapi plus a few cents for speech and voice. Vapi's free number is US only and only takes calls; a US number at Twilio costs about $1.15 a month and calls both ways (a Twilio trial only reaches numbers you've verified there). Local numbers in most European countries need an ID check at the provider first. Your agent's thinking uses its usual model and tokens.
How it works: the kit answers Vapi's webhooks on your server's public kit address (every request must carry a secret only Vapi and your server know). For each call it gives Vapi an assistant whose "model" is your own agent, reached through Hermes' local API. What callers say is treated as information, never as instructions.
Outbound connections: api.vapi.ai, and api.twilio.com and pricing.twilio.com only while you pick a Twilio number.
Requires the Hermes agent (choose Hermes when deploying a POCKETCORP) and a Vapi account. Installing asks for one sudo approval on your dashboard, for the page's background service; turn on auto-approval first for a hands-free install. Uninstalling takes your agent off the phone; the number stays in your Vapi account.
